Telangana to boost agri sector by deploying emerging technologies: Government of Telangana collaborated with C4IR India, the World Economic Forum, and a cross-section of the AgriTech Industry and the start-up community to explore the potential of deploying emerging technologies to transform the agriculture sector in Telangana by deploying emerging technologies in a scalable, inclusive and sustainable way. Under the Saagu Baagu project, the government aims to influence at least one lakh farmers covering four crop cycles and establish the required infrastructure for scaling it up across the State.

Ten organizations permitted to use drones- Ministry of civil aviation: The Civil Aviation Ministry gave conditional permission to ten organizations, including Mahindra and Mahindra, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) and Bayer Crop Science, to use drones for various purposes. The permission is valid for a period of one year from the date of approval or until further orders.

India to import GM soyameal for the first time : The ministry of environment has allowed imports of genetically modified soyameal as the crushed cake does not contain any living organism. The imports are necessary as skyrocketing prices of soyameal have made the livestock feed costlier, affecting farmers associated with the poultry, dairy and aqua industry.

National database of farmers and a data policy for farm sector: The database will helping in developing solutions by leveraging the available data to reduce input costs, ease farming practices, improve quality and improve farmer income with better prices. The database is being built by taking the publicly available data as existing in the Department of Agriculture and in various data silos in government and linking them with the digitised land records. The database is envisaged to facilitate online single sign on facilities for universal access and usher in personalised services to farmers.

Record business registration in agriculture in FY 21: The agriculture sector recorded the highest growth in business registration at 103% in FY 21. The sector witnessed registration of 12,368 business in FY2021 as compared to 6,107 in the previous year. Agriculture production (crops), food and kindred products manufacturing were few of the sub sectors which witnessed the maximum growth.
